Planning Commission to Review the DRAFT Plan on December 2, 2009

The Planning Commission will review the DRAFT
Comprehensive Plan in their public hearing scheduled for Wednesday, December 2
at 7:00 PM, and then make a recommendation to the Town Board for its
consideration, probably in January of 2010.
The draft has been sent to some of the large landowners
outside the Town limits but inside of Milliken’s Influence Area, and to
neighboring municipalities – Greeley, Evans, Gilcrest, Platteville, and
Johnstown. Their comments, along with any from Milliken’s residents and
business owners are a critical part of the Plan’s evaluation.

Envision Milliken
Milliken residents take pride in the town’s friendly, small town character. Improving upon or even maintaining and preserving this special character as the town grows over time represents a significant challenge considering the increased demand for community services and the limited resources and funds available.
To address these challenges, citizens are now being asked to create a new, revised comprehensive plan, dubbed ‘Envision Milliken’, that will provide a strategic long-term vision and basic goals, objectives, policies and recommendations to help guide the town’s future growth and development. What is Envision Milliken?
A long-term vision for the growth and physical development of the town.
A policy framework that guides planning, zoning and development decisions.
A plan that addresses housing, neighborhoods, jobs, transportation, parks and open spaces, community facilities and services, utilities, cultural resources and landmarks.

"Community Visioning" Workshops April 30 and May 1

Citizens were encouraged to attend one of the scheduled
workshops where they were asked to provide their preferences about Milliken’s future. During these “hands-on” meetings citizens participated in visual preference exercises and suggested their vision about how the Town should grow and develop over time.

5-6, 2009 Community Stakeholder Interviews
We believe that the best way to begin the comprehensive
plan update is to listen. To that end, the Envision Milliken project team
interviewed more than 25 key community individuals over two days. These
interviews help define the issues and opportunities that should be addressed in
Envision Milliken, as well as how the team could most effectively involve the
Town’s many interests as the public process moves forward.
